Særp Tropez |Kvartal 99|

Særp Tropez’ “Kvartal 99” takes you in behind closed curtains in Sarpsborg’s eastern district. This is the final performance in Særp Tropez’s site specfic trilogy : a raw, boisterous, intimate and beautiful theatre experience close to everyday life.

Særp Tropez was launched in 2023 as a trilogy of performances in abandoned buildings in Sarpsborg. While the first performance took place in a prison and the second in a paper factory, the journey now continues to Østre bydel, the eastern district of Sarpsborg.

Behind closed curtains

In Kvartal 99, the audience is invited into apartments, shops and basements, close to everyday life as it is lived behind closed curtains. The performance takes you on a journey in the borderland between dreams and everyday life.

Step inside rooms you usually walk past or don’t have access to, and listen to stories you rarely get to hear. Wander through flats that are too small for dreams, dusted away along with ambitions; down into dark basements with glimmers of hope – to small garden patches where plans for the future grow wild and beautiful.

In preparation for the performance, the production team spoke with various people in the Østre bydel and collected their lottery dreams – everything from small, everyday wishes to big holiday plans – and the dreams that even the lottery jackpot cannot help you achieve. It is these dreams – and nightmares – that pulsate at the heart of the performance.

Lottery dreams

Join brief encounters, small moments and stories that do not shout, but linger.

Here, you will see ambitions that still live on and dreams that have changed shape; empty juice cartons that are put back in the refrigerator; socks that disappear one by one; alarms that are turned off again and again and again, until suddenly it’s too late and the school day has already begun; plants that almost survive on leftover pasta water; arguments over the remote control; apologies said to no one; and the constant feeling that something should have been done yesterday –

But also the small everyday triumphs: Cooking the rice just right; catching the bus at the last second; sending that message you’ve been putting off for too long; having just enough money for your favourite energy drink; following a recipe from home that makes your mum cry with joy; enjoing leftovers that taste amazing the next day; and the feeling that this – this mess on your plate – tastes just like home.

Everyday life can be a jigsaw puzzle of little habits – until one day, when everything shifts. With one correct row in the lottery, the alarm clock becomes less important, dinner becomes optional, and the future becomes something you can suddenly rearrange. What would you do if you won the lottery?

Kvartal 99 is a journey through what was, what is – and what may still be.
